BarkTranslate was founded in 2018 in Genova by Matteo Ferrara, with one argument: that domain expertise matters as much as language competence in specialist translation.

Our story

Genova, 2018.

Matteo Ferrara founded BarkTranslate after 12 years as a technical translator in Genova’s marine industry. The same problem recurred in client after client: the translation was linguistically correct and technically uncertain. The translator understood the language but not the engineering.

BarkTranslate was built to solve that. The agency does not employ one type of translator and assign everything to them. It maintains specialist categories and assigns by subject matter. Legal work goes to translators with law backgrounds. Medical work goes to life science specialists. Technical work goes to engineers and scientists.

The agency is based in Genova — a city with a long tradition in international maritime and commercial trade, which gives it natural access to a concentrated pool of technical, legal, and financial translation expertise.
